Alex Wu was born in Taiwan and presently lives in Mississauga, Ontario. He completed his undergraduate degree at the Ontario College of Art and Design, and graduated with honours. He proceeded to obtain his M.F.A. in painting at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Before emigrating to Canada, Alex was a designer, a newspaper animator, a sniper in the Taiwanese Marine Corps, a scuba-diving instructor with the Red-Cross Association, and co-director of "Sea Lion Project," part of the North Taiwan ocean floor inspection programs.
