Artist Memo: Preconceived notions are an interesting aspect of consciousness. If I prepare my paint-ground with raw-sienna type colours before I start my painting, I see Florence, the Renaissance.

If my painting is grounded with ivory black, and titanium white, I see Paris, Gustave Courbet or Edouard Manet, Impressionism- and sometimes, an empty chair reserved for a phantom.
